Question:  I have had your zapper for about 2 years now.  My batteries are slowly dying as it’s giving the extra beep during the traditional zap time.  What batteries do you recommend for your product?  And do you have info on how to install them?  I have rechargeable batteries but they are NiMH.  Are those okay too?  – A

Answer:   We recommend high quality alkaline “AA” batteries such as Duracell or Energizer for the best performance in your AutoZap 5.  You may find our video, Battery Care for the AutoZap 5 Zapper, answers many questions about this topic. We cover installation and troubleshooting too.

We recommend against rechargeables for several reasons:

  • The AutoZap 5 is extremely efficient, so rechargeables tend to self-discharge from being in the zapper for a long time
  • Rechargeables are much more likely to leak and cause corrosion
  • They don’t last as long as alkalines
  • Alkaline batteries are inexpensive

Here is the battery label picture with orientation of the batteries.

We hope this helps!
