Question:  Do I need to moisten my hands prior to using the gloves when zapping?  Also, my gloves have stretched out a bit since I purchased them.  Are they still good or do they need to be replaced?  How would I know if they weren’t working any more?  EGC

Answer:  The answer to your question is found in watching the small green light on your AutoZap 5 zapper when you begin your zapping.

The way you will know that you have a good connection with the gloves (or straps, or any other contact form) while zapping is that the green light should light up when you begin.  It should not be dim, but easily visible and bright.  If the connection is bad or insufficient for any number of reasons, the green light will not light up.

Typically you should not need to dampen your conductive gloves.  If your gloves are not delivering you a good contact, or need to be a little damp, the green contact light will not shine brightly.  Try a light spray of water on your hands from a spray bottle if you feel your stretched gloves are not allowing the green light to shine brightly.  If that does not change, here are some things to look at.

  • broken wire (animals sometimes bite through wires)
  • insufficient moisture on the super straps (may be with the gloves too, but not likely)
  • wires not snapped on the contacts, or jack not seated well.

Always look at your zapper when you start it up, to make sure the green light is shining.  It it is, your are ok and your gloves are fine.

Please see our post on how to test the wires for a possible broken wire.

We hope this helps,
